Do you remember your 18th birthday? We know Tina will joyfully recall hers! Not only did she get to blow out the candles in the company of all of her friends, but she also received the watch she had been wishing for. Tina loves to entertain with everyone with her singing. As you can tell, she has no problem showing the joy she felt that day!

Moments of magical thinking. Toddlers base their thinking on what they see, hear, and feel-often resulting in inaccurate but creative conclusions. Wouldn't you love to know what Julia is thinking is inside that box?

Look at our real life Kewpie doll, Hannah! The sparkle in her eyes lets you know that she is happy, content, and truly loved. When we see smiles like this one, we know that your support of our work is something to be truly thankful for.

Mr. Bright Eyes aka Gregory is one precious little boy! He just received his new foot braces and was so excited! He also continues to work very hard with Sara, learning to recognize new sounds and learning to make these new sounds himself. Sweet little Maggie just captures our hearts! You have to wonder what she is contemplating. Maybe wondering who her next little playmate will be or maybe she is looking for her next hug! We are happy to say that she continues to thrive with the love and care that she is enveloped in each day.
November 11 - 17, 2011

Aren't their smiles contagious? Molly, Lyn, and Rylie share quite a friendship bond. Molly was recently adopted into her forever family and we know that even though Lyn and Rylie miss her, they have such happy memories they they shared together. Friends from the heart are never far apart!

Meet Brad, a easy-going, always smiling, young man in our Residential Special Care unit. One of his favorite activities is playing checkers in the courtyard and you better watch out if you challenge him to a game … behind that friendly smile is a fierce competitor!

This week’s choice for Photo of the Week was easy. We chose the image of AOW Founder & Co-Director, LeeAnn Mill, pausing for a quick photo opportunity with precious Rylie and heartbreaker Liam. LeeAnn is a wonderful photographer. This week she has taken one stunning photo after another of the orphans we serve at the House of Love.
October 7 - 13, 2011

Don’t those eyes just capture you? Meet Matt, a precious little guy who joined us a few months ago after abdominal surgery. He is a little chatterbox, loudly “talking” with anyone who is within earshot! We are grateful for all the prayers and well wishes you gave Matt the past few weeks while he was away for surgery in Shanghai. His sweet personality is once again, rewarding his caregivers with smiles and giggles.
September 30 - October 6, 2011

Olivia has recently made a big move up at the House of Love. In order to be with kids closer to her age, we moved her to the Clubfoot Unit. We felt like she was ready, but we worried she might be upset by the move. Well… she loves her new digs! We’re so proud of you, Olivia!
September 23 - 29, 2011

Ellie is finally going to have her cleft lip repaired! LWB has helped us make arrangements at a hospital where cleft lip surgeries are funded by Smile Train. But to be eligible for the surgery, Ellie had to be a certain weight… and we have been hard at work to get her prepared for her big day! With such a large cleft this was especially difficult – as eating regular food is impossible for her – so we added rice cereal to her bottles. And, as you can see, we’ve succeeded! Just look at those precious baby rolls…. and that beautiful smile
September 16-22, 2011

Meet Miss Annie. She has just recently learned to sit up on her own and she is, understandably, quite proud of her accomplishment. She doesn't really like to lie down or be propped up on cushions, she wants to see what is going on and get in on the action. You go, girl! Annie only recently arrived at the House of Love, and we are so happy to have her in our care – we just can't get enough of that cuteness!
September 9-15, 2011

Hope returned to the House of Love just a few weeks ago, after having her last surgery completed in Shanghai. We are so glad she is back, and as you can see, she is glad to be back as well. She has an entire repertoire of silly faces, which always elicit laughs from the Carers. Of course, this just encourages her to make more!
September 2-8, 2011

The children from the Clubfoot Unit recently had a visitor – a turtle!! The children had a great time watching it walk and turn over. Though most of the children had lived their whole lives in the orphanage and had never seen a real turtle before, many of them were game enough to gently touch him.
